What happened is that the code was not applying defaults and so some avatars were without clothes (or eyes!). But the default for facial hair is a beard, so when I fixed the no-defaults bug it started adding beards!
Rest assured, nobody has been hacking accounts, just a code change by me.
I've change the default to no facial hair to avoid confusion. Thanks for raising it.
